More tips on how to maximize the use of this baking ingredient
Tip #3 – Eases heartburn and acid indigestion
I can personally attest to the efficacy of baking soda in easing heartburn. I’ve been using it every time.
Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate. Its slight alkalinity neutralizes stomach acid that causes heartburn and indigestion. This powdery substance is also good at relieving gas and other stomach problems. Just add half a teaspoon baking soda into half glass of water. Mix it well and drink the solution down.
Of course, for a more serious condition, you better see a doctor.
Tip #4 – Relieves you from feeling bloated
Have you noticed that sometimes, after eating too many beans, you feel bloated as if you have too much gas inside? That’s because beans have gas-producing properties that can lead you farting all the way after dinner.
If you don’t want to go gas-blowing the next time you eat beans, add a bit of baking soda to the beans as they cook.
Tip #5 – A good first-aid for insect stings
Insects are notorious at creeping into our lives and homes. They bite us when threatened or when they mistook humans for food. Sometimes, we cannot immediately get to the Emergency Room. So, in case you or a family member got stung or bitten by an insect, relieve the pain with a baking soda.
Mix a teaspoon of baking soda and just enough amount of rubbing alcohol to make a paste. Apply the paste on the affected area. Leave the paste on for a few minutes before washing it off.
Tip #6 – Relieves itch from poison ivy
Poison ivy or oak can be unbearably itchy. Before bringing the victim to the Emergency Room, give him temporary relief.
Make a paste of baking soda and water and apply the mixture on the itchy part.
Tip #7 – Deodorant
One major thing that makes us uneasy is when we feel that our body smells. We do have natural body odor. Sometimes, though, it can be too much to bear, even offensive to those who may come near us. Using the conventional deodorants available in the market may not be a good idea. Many of these products contain properties that can be harmful to your skin or general health.
Try using the natural, chemical-free and cheap deodorant instead. Reach for the baking soda. Pour a small amount of baking soda into your powder puff and apply it under your arms. You’ll be fresh and odor-free all day. If you like, you may add a few drops of your favorite essential oil into the baking soda. Then, apply it in your underarms using a brush.
