However, if you’re watching your weight and sugar intake or having signs of insulin resistance, please limit your consumption of bananas because this fruit is rather high in carbohydrates and sugars.

Take note also that the nutritional content of bananas varies, depending on its ripeness.  They are at their healthiest in their unripened state. Green, or unripe bananas, contain 80 percent digestive-resistant starch, which is important for your optimal gut health. Since it’s a digestive-resistant starch, unripe bananas are proven to be effective in treating diarrhea. It goes directly into your large intestine and becomes food for the beneficial bacteria in your gut.

    1. According to Dr. Joseph Mercola, bananas contain 12 grams of sugar per 100 grams. Or, a large banana contains 17 grams of sugar, which is more than double compared to what you’d get from a cup of strawberry slices (which contains only 8 grams). The good thing about it is that sugar comes with fiber, which slows digestion. Unripe or green bananas are better than the ripe ones because they contain higher amount of digestive-resistant starch. Resistant starch is not easily digested, and so it lessens the amount of sugar released into the bloodstream.
