DID YOU KNOW?
The scientific name of rice is Oryza sativa. As a cereal grain, it is the most widely consumed staple food for a large part of the world’s human population, especially in Asia. It is the grain with second-highest worldwide production, after corn.
Rice is the staple food for us Filipinos and for half the world’s population. It is hard to imagine a meal without a bowl of steaming rice in the middle of the dinner table.
Rice is so common that we hardly give a thought on how it is produced. Many of us take it for granted that growing rice is just a simple task. Little do we realize that rice farming requires hard work that very few among us are willing to do.
